Working in fragile, conflict-affected contexts means accountability cannot be an afterthought. Here is how ACV is governed, safeguarded, and held to its own standards.
Four tiers, one chain of accountability
Authority flows down from the General Assembly; evidence and lessons flow back up from the field. Both directions matter.
General Assembly
The organisation's highest authority — founding and senior members who set long-term direction and approve major decisions.
Board of Directors
Provides strategic oversight, approves annual plans and budgets, and holds the Executive Direction accountable between Assemblies.
Executive Direction
Translates strategy into operations: the Executive Director and program coordinators run day-to-day delivery and report upward.
Program & Field Teams
Field officers, project leads and community volunteers deliver the work and feed lessons back up through monitoring & evaluation.
Every franc is traceable to a program outcome
ACV maintains separated programmatic and administrative budgets, reconciled financial records, and donor-specific reporting aligned to each grant agreement.
Annual accounts are reviewed internally by the Board's finance committee, and made available to institutional donors and partners as part of standard due diligence. We would rather under-promise on overhead and over-deliver on transparency than the reverse.
Segregated duties
No single staff member both approves and disburses program funds.
Independent review
The Board finance committee reviews accounts at least twice yearly.
Donor-aligned reporting
Financial and narrative reports follow each partner’s own reporting template and timeline.
The documents that hold us to our own standards
These governance and safeguarding documents are reviewed on a rolling basis. Partners and donors can request a current copy at any time.
Safeguarding Policy
Sets out how ACV prevents, identifies and responds to any risk of harm to the children, youth and community members it works with.
Code of Conduct
Defines the standards of behaviour expected of every staff member, volunteer and partner representing ACV in the field.
Strategic Plan 2026–2030
Lays out ACV's five-year direction across the five program pillars, with targets, milestones and resourcing assumptions.
Monitoring & Evaluation Framework
The indicators, data-collection methods and review cycles ACV uses to track whether programs are achieving their intended outcomes.
Risk Register
A living document tracking operational, security, financial and reputational risks across program areas, with mitigation owners assigned.
